EATING RIGHT: ALMONDS!

Almond is considered to be a superfood due to its dense nutritional properties. It is rich in Vitamin E, Healthy Fats, Fiber, and Minerals.

In many traditions, almonds are consumed after soaking overnight. There are lots of benefits of consuming soaked almonds (also called activated almonds).

Dhatu uses raw almonds for all of its almond products. You can choose from raw whole almonds, activated almond butter, almond flour or even just blanched almonds!

ACTIVATING ALMONDS!

Soaking almonds brings out biochemical changes in the almonds and they become live! Soaking reduces the anti-nutrients present in the almonds. Anti-nutrients (e.g., tannins, saponins, etc.) bind the minerals in the body and thus stop the nutrient absorption. The soaking process reduces anti-nutrient levels in the almonds, and the nutrients become bioavailable and are readily assimilated in the body.

BENEFITS OF ACTIVATED ALMONDS

  • Nutrients are bioavailable and are easily digested in the body
  • A 2017  (1) study found that soaking almond overnight increases the Vitamin E content by 117%! Vitamin E is good for heart health, skin health, eye health and lowers the risk of cancer.
  • Traditionally (in South India) it is believed that consuming soaked almonds in an empty stomach (early in the morning) improves memory and concentration. The study also found that consuming soaked almonds improves memory in the rats.

In general, eating almonds offers a host of benefits.  A 2015 (2) study found that eating nuts (specifically almonds, walnuts, and peanuts) appear to be a protective factor for breast cancer.  Almonds help in controlling bad cholesterol, aids in weight reduction, improve bone health and helping in managing blood sugar levels.

ACITVATED ALMOND BUTTER

Our almond butter is made by activated almonds and offers full nutritional benefits that an almond truly offers! The soaked almonds are dried at low temperatures to preserve all the goodness of the activation process. Then activated almonds are slow roasted (roasting process reduces the anti-nutrients level further) and stone-ground to produce wholesome and delicious almond butter. It is a single ingredient product, which means nothing is added or taken out in the almond butter process.

ALMOND FLOUR

There is a demand for healthy alternative flours and thatā€™s where humble almond flour comes to rescue which offers a host of health benefits. Dhatu Almond Flour is produced from blanched almonds. It is an incredibly nutritious wholesome food. It is low in carbohydrates and is naturally gluten-free. One cup of almond flour nearly has 80 to 90 almonds, which provides important nutrients. Regular consumption of Almonds increases the energy levels.

Use almond flour in baking cakes and cookies. Replace in parts or full in your favorite baking recipes. Use it in breading, coating for vegetables and fish while frying. This can also be used as a fragrant and crunchy topping. Make delicious Almond Halwa, Laddu or add to smoothies.

WHOLE ALMONDS

Just buy the whole and raw almonds to use it in your recipes. You can make activated almonds, almond butter or almond milk, etc., using whole almonds. Below is the recipe for how to make almond milk from almond butter.

Equipment

  • Grinder or hand held blender

Materials

  • 1 tbsp Dhatu Activated Almond Butter
  • 200 ml Water
  • 1 tsp Dhatu Turmeric Powder Optional

Instructions

  • Take one scoop of Dhatu Activated Almond Butter and blend with the water using a grinder or a handheld blender. That's it!! We highly recommend using Dhatu Activated Almond Butter to do this as it does not contain any preservative or additives. It is 100% pure almonds!!

Notes

Our almonds are activated (Click here to know more about activating almonds) before grinding it into butter. It is stone grounded and is made in small batches. One of the best ways to enjoy our almond butter is making almond milk out of it! Since it is all-natural butter without any additives or preservatives, oil tends to get separated and collects on the top of the butter. Please mix any oil collected on top of the butter before scooping from the jar.Ā 
If you prefer you can add more butter than the recommended dosage, to make the almond milk thicker. With one jar of activated almond butter, one can make about 8 ā€“ 10 liters of almond milk!!Activated Almond Butter 1

BLANCHED ALMONDS

Many prefer blanched almonds (without skin) and this is just what they need! You can make your own blanched almonds by soaking whole almonds overnight in water. Peel the skin of the soaked almonds. Itā€™s done!

WHY CHOOSE DHATU RAW ALMOND PRODUCTS?

At dhatu we are conscious about providing maximum nutrition and in a safe way without using any ultra processing, chemicals, or additives. Our almonds are raw and wholesome, just as nature intended to be. Most commercially available almonds are pasteurized by heat application or by a chemical fumigant. Our almonds are not pasteurized. Further high heating application to almonds creates acrylamide, which is a Group 2A carcinogen. Also not to forget that many valuable phytonutrients and vitamins will be lost during the pasteurization process. All of our almond products are processed minimally to provide maximum nutrition retention in the final product. There is also no intense heat application carried out.
